Summer’s here and the kids will be looking for things to do. And, let’s be honest, as parents, you’re wanting to make sure they’re somewhat educationally engaged, too.

Luckily, lots of fun and educational options exist for kids in and around Missouri City, TX, this summer. Here, The Beach House Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics team offers seven educational activities nearby for your kids to try.

1. Computer Science Fun for Kids
Is your child super interested in things like game coding and programming? Strem HQ Tech Academy has week-long day camps for computer science-minded kids at nearby Houston Community College’s South Campus. June camps are running right now with July camps covering things like game design, Roblox, building and coding autonomous vehicles, and animation coding. Camps are for ages 8-12 and 11-14.

2. Summer Day Camp with Missouri City Community Center
Want a well-rounded and active week of fun for your kids? Learning and play go hand-in-hand at the Missouri City Parks & Rec summer day camps for kids 6-13. Camps run every week through June and July. Kids get to do a ton of summer kids activities including lots of outdoor play, pool and park days, arts and crafts, science experiments and field trips to places like Star Cinema Grill and Flip N Fun. Whew! It makes us breathless just thinking about all that fun! Check out the Day Camps on the Missouri City Parks & Rec for more info.

3. Camp Everbrook at Everbrook Academy
Everbrook Academy is a STEAM-based pre-school, pre- and after-school care center. In the summer, they also offer a summer care day camp for kids 5-10. Kids have fun exploring a variety of creative themes and activities, plus they get lots of outdoor activity every day. And bonus for parents? You get a well-deserved break from making lunches since meals and snacks are included.

4. Color Factory in Houston
And now for a summer kids’ activity that’s totally unique. Have you taken your kids to Color Factory? If not, definitely put it on your list as one of the top educational activities for kids nearby. Color Factory is an immersive and interactive art exhibit that tells the story of Texas through color and was designed in partnership with local and international artists and collaborators. A visit to Color Factory always includes giveaways, sweet treats, plus complimentary digital photos so you can relive your experience at home.

5. Children’s Museum – Houston
There’s a reason the Children’s Museum – Houston received a “Best Family Travel” Award by Good Housekeeping magazine. With exhibits and activities geared towards kids of all ages, you’ll find educational activities for kids from wee toddlers all the way up to your tweenagers. From STEM interactivity to the massive climbing structure to the kid-sized city, KidTropolis, USA, the Children’s Museum is a whole day (or two or three) well spent.

Summertime also features deep-dive, structured workshops and activities with themes like “Dino-Mite!” and Guardians of the Galaxy.

6. Story Time at Missouri City Branch Library
A list of educational kids activities in Missouri City isn’t complete without mentioning what the local library offers. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15 – 10:45 am, the Missouri City library has a half-hour story time that will enchant little ones and give everyone a little break from the heat. Every story time has a kid-favorite theme like dinosaurs, unicorns, or space, so check the library’s story time schedule for themes your kids will love.

7. Educational Performances and Events at the Library
The Missouri City library also has special SRC Family Programming on Thursday afternoons from 2:00-3:00 pm. From hip hop performances to theater to magic, elementary school-aged kids (and their adults!) will learn new things and have fun, too.
