Summer’s here and the kids will be looking for things to do. And, let’s be honest, as parents, you’re wanting to make sure they’re somewhat educationally engaged, too.

Luckily, lots of fun and educational options exist for kids in and around Missouri City, TX, this summer. Here, The Beach House Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics team offers eight educational activities nearby for your kids to try.

1. Computer Science Fun for Kids

Is your child super interested in things like game coding and programming? Strem HQ Tech Academy has week-long day camps for computer science-minded kids at Computer Museum of America – Roswell and the STREM HQ in Alpharetta. June and July camps cover things like game design, Minecraft, building and coding autonomous vehicles, and AI. Camps are for ages 8-12 and 11-14.

2. Summer Day Camp with Missouri City Community Center

Want a well-rounded and active week of fun for your kids? Learning and play go hand-in-hand at the Missouri City Parks & Rec summer day camps for kids 6-12. Camps run every week through June and July. Kids get to do a ton of summer kids activities including lots of outdoor play, pool and park days, arts and crafts, science experiments and field trips. 3. Camp Everbrook at Everbrook Academy

Everbrook Academy is a STEAM-based pre-school, pre- and after-school care center. In the summer, they also offer a summer care day camp for kids 5-10. Kids have fun exploring a variety of creative themes and activities, plus they get lots of outdoor activity every day. This year, the theme is Wonder Week. And bonus for parents? You get a well-deserved break from making lunches since meals and snacks are included.

4. Color Factory in Houston

And now for a summer kids’ activity that’s totally unique. Have you taken your kids to Color Factory? If not, definitely put it on your list as one of the top educational activities for kids nearby. Color Factory is an immersive and interactive art exhibit that tells the story of Texas through color and was designed in partnership with local and international artists and collaborators. A visit to Color Factory always includes giveaways, sweet treats, plus complimentary digital photos so you can relive your experience at home.

5. Children’s Museum – Houston

There’s a reason the Children’s Museum – Houston received a “Best Family Travel” Award by Good Housekeeping magazine. With exhibits and activities geared towards kids of all ages, you’ll find educational activities for kids from wee toddlers all the way up to your tweenagers. From STEM interactivity to the massive climbing structure to the kid-sized city, KidTropolis, USA, the Children’s Museum is a whole day (or two or three) well spent.

Summertime also has a special events calendar that features deep-dive, structured activities with themes like “Gravity WonderWeek, Alien Escape, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

6. Story Time at Missouri City Branch Library

A list of educational kids activities in Missouri City isn’t complete without mentioning what the local library offers. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15 – 10:45 am, the Missouri City library has a half-hour story time that will enchant little ones and give everyone a little break from the heat. Every story time has a kid-favorite theme like dinosaurs, unicorns, or space, so check the library’s story time schedule for themes your kids will love like space, underwater adventure, and the rhythms of Bollywood.

7. Educational Performances and Events at the Library

The Missouri City library also has special SRC Family Programming on Thursday afternoons from 2:00-3:00 pm. From hip hop performances to theater to magic, elementary school-aged kids (and their adults!) will learn new things and have fun, too.

8. Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center

This children’s museum in Sugar Land is one of the tried-and-true things to do with kids in summer. With areas like Dragons & Fairies, Amazingly Immature (for STEAM and literacy activities), How Does It Work?, and the new Kidtropolis, USA mini city, this outing is a surefire winner on of your must-do educational (and fun!) activities for kids.
